As the weather starts to turn a bit ugly and the nights draw in quicker than we would like, I thought it was time to look back on an awesome summer!
Tom (my younger brother) and Sarah got married on the 4th July this year. I was honoured to be asked to be Best Man for them.
I've learnt a huge amount of my photography from a friend of mine who is a wedding photographer and I've assisted him a couple of times, I find wedding photography really interesting. Now, that said, I certainly wasn't going to try and photograph a wedding whilst being Best Man at the same time! I also wouldn't have wanted to miss the festivities. Just the little glimpse I've had into what it takes to photograph a wedding properly makes me see that there is no way you could fully commit to it whilst also participating in the wedding as a guest, let alone the Best Man.
Tom and Sarah hired a photographer for the day and I'm very conscious of how annoying it is to have a family member waving their DSLR in your way whilst you're trying to work. With this in mind, my camera stayed in my bag for 95% of the day. I did however take the opportunity to get a few shots during the parts of the day when the photographer wasn't there. The shots you see below were taken at my parents house in the morning whilst we were getting ready and then in the later evening, after he had left for the night. I also grabbed two minutes (literally!) to take the couple of quick portraits during the afternoon drinks. You'll also see a photo (the fourth one to be precise) taken by Mrs Sambles. It features a pretty handsome Best Man on the right!
The day itself was fantastic, the weather was perfect, the venue (Thatchers Hotel, near Leatherhead, Surrey) was superb, Sarah looked beautiful in her dress and Tom even managed to scrub up pretty smart too! The Best Man speech went down well and I got the few laughs I was hoping for, it was an all round fantastic day and we partied well into the night!
It was a very proud day for me to see my little brother get married, him and Sarah are perfect together. Tom did an amazing job as my Best Man back in 2012, so it was great to return the favour.
So for me its back to photographing Sports and Events, although I must admit, just taking a handful of shots did give me a taste for trying something like this in the future....... we'll see!
Below are my shots from Tom and Sarah's perfect summer wedding.
